Two great days out of Salsa dancing, music, fine food, partying and friendship!

  • More than 20 hours of workshop to choose from in: Salsa, AfroCuban, Ladies/Men Styling, Bachata, Kizomba, percussions.
  • Classes for all levels. Indoors and covered outdoors, weather-proof spaces.
  • Non-stop partying until 2.30am on the Saturday night, and extra partying until 23:30 on the Sunday night.
  • Exclusive shows by the invited teachers.
  • Delicious food and drink specials available on site. Ample parking space.


LINEUP:

The programme features professional master teachers who have impressive track records of teaching nationally and internationally. It also actively promotes the new generation of teachers who have learned from the masters and are doing a great job developing Cuban salsa at the national level. Finally, it also features some of the teachers who are doing an essential job in developing Cuban salsa at the local level in East Anglia. In alphabetical order, please welcome:

SATURDAY

  • 9:30am - 10am : registration, free tea/coffee, welcome address.
  • 10am - 1pm : morning workshops.
  • 1pm - 2pm : lunch break, special buffet.
  • 2pm - 7pm : afternoon workshops.
  • 7pm - 8.30pm : dinner break, special menu or a la carte.
  • 8.30pm : ice-breaker and party, shows at 11pm.


SUNDAY

  • 12:30 - 14:00 : brunch time, open dancefloors, free ruedas.
  • 14:00 - 17:00 : special 3hrs rueda workshop, "Hangout with Moe Flex"!
  • 17:00 - 19:30 : Dinner break.
  • 19:30 - 23:30 : Special class (teacher TBC) and free party at the Sunday Salsa Lounge, Man on the Moon, 3 Norfolk St, CB1 2LF, upon presentation of the festival's wristband.

Food:

Like last year, there will be a £6 BUFFET offer for lunch (BBQ option to be confirmed), and a 3-course buffet special at £14 for dinner. A range of snacks will also be available throughout the day.

Gentle notice: as part of the agreement that makes it possible to organise the festival at this great venue, all food consumed on the premises MUST come from The Missing Sock. The food has received very positive feedback last year, so we hope that this is good value for you. Thank you for your understanding.

Sunday Dec. 9th - Special "Sandy Relief" charity workshops with Danza Zunzún!

To get us ready for the Christmas festivities and spirit Cambridge Cuban Salsa presents a one-off set of three workshops exploring the roots of Cuban dance. These workshops have been designed in the same spirit as this Autumn's series both at the Thursday Social Club and the fabulous and entertaining classes by Havana Belgrado and AfroFusion Dance at the Sunday Salsa Lounge: enriching you salsa and your styling with genuine elements of Cuba's rich dancing culture. The effects on everyone's dancing, fluidity and confidence on the dance-floor have been clearly visible over the past months. If you didn't have a chance to be with us for the past series, now is your chance to catch up on this.

SPECIAL SANDY RELIEF: ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO THE DANCERS AND FAMILIES OF THE AFRO CUBAN BALLET IN SANTIAGO

As we are preparing to celebrate Christmas en Europe, people in Cuba may not be that lucky, especially in the Eastern provinces (Santiago and surrounding) which have been seriously devastated by hurricane Sandy. All proceeds from the day will go to the fund that Danza Zunzún are building and which will be donated to the dancers & families of The Afro-Cuban Ballet in Santiago de Cuba, whose houses were ravaged and whose lives were seriously affected by this natural disaster. Cambridge Cuban Salsa is happy to help by donating infrastructure to organise and advertise this workshop, and we hope to see many of you supporting this good cause.

A GOOD VALUE WORKSHOP

Feedback about Danza Zunzún's teaching at the Thursdays and other workshops in Cambridge has been very positive, and this is one of the last occasions to benefit from their teaching before they leave Cambridge. Extra value includes:

  • a free CD with all the music that was used during Danza Zunzún's classes in Cambridge,
  • free access to the Sunday Salsa Lounge (class+party) on the same day.


The programme is as follows:

  • 1500: workshops at the Cambridge Working Men's Club, 125 East Road, Cambridge CB1 1DB (opposite the Crown Court):
    • 1500-1550: Salsa Picante; Putting Rumba, Son and Afro-Cuban styling into your salsa.
    • Water and clothes change break.
    • 1600-1650: Rumba Guaguancó; with live percussion (clave and shekere) and recently released music by Kokoye in Santiago de Cuba.
    • Water and clothes change break.
    • 1700-1750: Conga Santiaguera; to get us into the Christmas mood; the ultimate Santiago de Cuba -carnival, -community and -high-energy dance.
  • 1800: optional group dinner at the Chinese buffet one block up from the Man on the Moon on Norfolk street.
  • 1930: Sunday Salsa Lounge, class + party, at the Man on the Moon, 2 Norfolk St., CB1 2LF.

If you are only available for 1 hour on Sunday you can choose your favourite class at a drop in costs mentioned below, but this excludes the free CD and free access to the Sunday Salsa Lounge.

A large, spacious dance-floor awaits us at the Cambridge Working Men's Club on East Road. Please bring comfortable clothes and perhaps a couple of changes as the workshops will be high-energy.

Costs: £18.00 (NUS £9.00) if booked in advance, £20.00 (NUS £10) at the door.

Everyone who attended Nikola's workshop at the AfroSalsa Dance Festival 2012 last July asked us "oh please please please bring him back to Cambridge". His classes are a fantastic blend of irresistible humour and sound technical advice, the kind which will inspire you with quite a few revelations about Cuban salsa as seen from a clever and witty point of view. No convinced yet? Just have a look at this:


Nikola will be assisted in his classes by DANIELLE SATSIAS, who is known as one of the best female dancers of the Cuban scene in London.


ARIEL RIOS
No need to present "Ary the Professor" in Cambridge anymore, as he has been regularly with us for some fantastic monthly classes at the Sunday Salsa Lounge since the beginning of this year. Genuine Cuban flavour mixed with the expertise of a highly qualified teacher: you get the best of everything. Ariel is regularly invited to teach and perform at international congresses such as the one below in Riga:


THE SUNDAY SALSA LOUNGE
The classes are followed by the usual Sunday Salsa Lounge Cuban party, which has been rocking the Cuban scene in Cambridge for the past two years, led by DjSacha whose knowledgeable and tasteful selection of danceable Cuban music has been validated by invitations to play at the most prestigious of the UK's Cuban congresses such as the Bournemouth International Cuban Salsa Congress, the Tropicalentura South Wales Cuban Congress and the AfroCuban Pati weekender series.

What's included in this 8 weeks master course:
This 8 weeks master class includes 1hr of weekly class in a CLOSED GROUP available only upon advance booking, from 18:30 to 19:30. Please note: the closed group is not suitable for beginners. If in doubt about your level, please contact DjSacha about it. Numbers will be strictly limited for the closed group, in order to get full attention from the teacher, and no extra admission will be taken once the course is started, in order to guarantee continuous progress. The closed group class will be followed by another hour in the form of the usual drop-in class with the invited teacher, from 19:30 to 20:30. Then the party will carry on until 23:30. You have the option to book the closed group only or a bundle with the drop-in class which will give you full access to the Sunday Salsa Lounge class and party for the months of October and November at a discounted rate. These options are available as two distinct packages:

  • Closed group only package: 2 months of Cuban salsa classes with top professional teachers in a closed group, including 6hrs tuition with Nikola Medic, 2hrs tuition with Ariel Rios, for a total of 8hrs in closed group. Price: £48 UNTIL SEPTEMBER 16TH, £56 until September 30th, £60 until the October 7th start date. Students: £40 / £48 / £50.
  • Full access package: 2 months "all you can eat" Cuban salsa with top professional teachers for October and November, including the closed group package above plus full access to the Sunday Salsa Lounge drop-in class and party afterwards with a top national DJ. Price: £85 UNTIL SEPTEMBER 16TH, £90 until September 30th, £95 until the October 7th start date. Students: £60 / £68 / £70.
