More than 20 hours of workshop to choose from in: Salsa, AfroCuban, Ladies/Men Styling, Bachata, Kizomba, percussions.

Non-stop partying until 2.30am on the Saturday night, and extra partying until 23:30 on the Sunday night.

The programme features professional master teachers who have impressive track records of teaching nationally and internationally. It also actively promotes the new generation of teachers who have learned from the masters and are doing a great job developing Cuban salsa at the national level. Like last year, there will be a £6 BUFFET offer for lunch (BBQ option to be confirmed), and a 3-course buffet special at £14 for dinner. A range of snacks will also be available throughout the day.

Gentle notice: as part of the agreement that makes it possible to organise the festival at this great venue, all food consumed on the premises MUST come from The Missing Sock. The food has received very positive feedback last year, so we hope that this is good value for you. Thank you for your understanding.

Jesus Cutinõ's credentials are very impressive: member of band SKA CUBANO, who has been touring internationally and has been setting fire to major UK festivals such as Glastonbury, resident musician at the famous RONNIE SCOTT'S CLUB in London for their Latino Fridays, on stage at the BARBICAN with international jazz superstar WYNTON MARSALIS, headliner of the LONDON CUBAN CONGRESS last year... Obviously, Jesus is a professional, but one with a friendly personality, an infectious love for danceable music and a communicative energy. Having been to many of his London gigs, we can guarantee that you won't be able to stop dancing! It is a chance and a honour to be able to welcome him in Cambridge for this danceable concert and party, without having to drive miles away to enjoy his music.

ANNETA KEPKA
Anneta Kepka, a London based internationally known dance artist, teacher, choreographer & performer: 2008 IDO World Ladies Salsa Shines Champion and 2006 UK Salsa Champion, she began her adventure with dance in Poland at the age of 10. Over the years she has studied various other forms of dance, like RnB , hip-hop, street dance, ballroom and Latin. As a one of the lead dancers of a dance company in Poland she discovered salsa and felt a strong connection with Latin dance and music. After experimenting with different styles at various salsa congresses (first L.A., then New York, Puerto-Rican and finally Cuban), she decided to devote her heart and soul to developing her knowledge of Cuban style only, which appeared to be the one with the most to offer in terms of cultural depth, connection with the music and secrets to discover.

It is a form of non-verbal communication, a representation of art, expressed by shapes and movement giving an opportunity to express our personality and emotions." - Anneta Kepka

OSBANIS TEJEDA
Osbanis Tejeda Fajardo, a London based inernationally known dance artist, musician, teacher, choreographer & performer: 2004 World Rueda Champion, 2003 UK Cuban Salsa Champion, graduated professor of Cuban percussion. Born in Granma, Cuba, and grew up in Havana. He always had a big passion for music and used to play with many different bands in Cuba, all sorts of music from more traditional style of Son , Rumba, Cha cha cha, and Popular music to modern Latin jazz and other genres. In 2002 he came to UK with the idea of making the Cuban roots more popular around the word. From playing the music to playing with the music, that's when his dance career took a professional turn. He incorporates in his style the street Cuban salsa – casino, which he was surrounded by when living in Cuba. On the music side, he has had the opportunity to work with many world famous bands, like Orishas and Roll Deep. On the dancing side, he has been featured in some music videos and TV commercials as well as sharing the stage with stars like Sean Paul, Angie Stone and Craig David.

THE SUNDAY SALSA LOUNGE
The classes are followed by the usual Sunday Salsa Lounge Cuban party, which has been rocking the Cuban scene in Cambridge for the past three years, led by DjSacha whose knowledgeable and tasteful selection of danceable Cuban music has been validated by invitations to play at the most prestigious of the UK's Cuban congresses such as the Bournemouth International Cuban Salsa Congress, the Tropicalentura South Wales Cuban Congress and the AfroCuban Pati weekender series.

What's included in this 4 weeks master course:
This 4 weeks master class includes 1hr of weekly class in a CLOSED GROUP available only upon advance booking, from 18:30 to 19:30. Please note: the closed group is not suitable for beginners. If in doubt about your level, please contact DjSacha. Numbers will be strictly limited for the closed group, in order to get full attention from the teacher, and no extra admission will be taken once the course is started, in order to guarantee continuous progress.
The closed group class will be followed by another hour in the form of the usual drop-in class with the invited teacher, from 19:30 to 20:30. Then the party will carry on until 23:30.

2013 is definitely starting with loads of fantastically great Cuban salsa news:

the 4 weeks course with OSBANIS & ANETTA in Cambridge is CONFIRMED, yay! Dates: Sundays February 17th & 24th, then March 10th & 17th. More info coming very soon. We are soooo excited about welcoming such inspiring teachers in our town!
The Missing Sock has also confirmed their availability for the AFROSALSA 2013: July 13th-14th. We are now working on composing the programme and contacting the artists: be prepared for a few interesting ones, quality is what we like.
The date of the JESUS CUTINO CONCERT IN CAMBRIDGE, which was announced for February 8th, will have to be shifted due to unforeseen circumstances, but we are very determined to make it happen. We are now waiting for date confirmation from some alternative venues, probably sometime late February.
HAVANA D'PRIMERA, probably the best Cuban band of the 21st century, is COMING TO PLAY in LONDON at the Electric Brixton on Friday April 12th!!! This is a rare and precious event, it's like a dream come true, and the whole of the UK's Cuban salsa scene will be supporting it. Cambridge in the house? YESSSSS! We have 30 tickets for sale at the regular price of £22 (you save the booking fees), well, actually 27 tickets left because they are going very fast, and we will definitely make this a group trip. Yay!

REGULAR CUBAN SALSA CLASSES taught in a fun-filled yet technically sound way, and followed by a WEEKLY SOCIAL DANCE: this is the perfect place to enjoy salsa in an upbeat environment, dancing to the sound of the most up-to-date salsa tracks, carefully selected by an experienced DJ with an international reputation. To get us ready for the Christmas festivities and spirit Cambridge Cuban Salsa presents a one-off set of three workshops exploring the roots of Cuban dance. These workshops have been designed in the same spirit as this Autumn's series both at the Thursday Social Club and the fabulous and entertaining classes by Havana Belgrado and AfroFusion Dance at the Sunday Salsa Lounge: enriching you salsa and your styling with genuine elements of Cuba's rich dancing culture. The effects on everyone's dancing, fluidity and confidence on the dance-floor have been clearly visible over the past months. If you didn't have a chance to be with us for the past series, now is your chance to catch up on this.

SPECIAL SANDY RELIEF: ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO THE DANCERS AND FAMILIES OF THE AFRO CUBAN BALLET IN SANTIAGO

As we are preparing to celebrate Christmas en Europe, people in Cuba may not be that lucky, especially in the Eastern provinces (Santiago and surrounding) which have been seriously devastated by hurricane Sandy. All proceeds from the day will go to the fund that Danza Zunzún are building and which will be donated to the dancers & families of The Afro-Cuban Ballet in Santiago de Cuba, whose houses were ravaged and whose lives were seriously affected by this natural disaster. Cambridge Cuban Salsa is happy to help by donating infrastructure to organise and advertise this workshop, and we hope to see many of you supporting this good cause.

Food:

Following last year's feedback, the food options have been revised. This year, there will be a £6 BUFFET offer for lunch (BBQ option to be confirmed), and a 3-course buffet special at £14 for dinner. The dinner special can be bought at the 15% discounted rate of £12 if booked in advance with the party or workshop ticket.

A range of snacks will also be available throughout the day.

This is the project which might bring your Cuban salsa to a whole new level. The Thursday Salsa Social Club, that is:

THE CLASSES

19:30-20:30 : a 50' SPECIALTY WORKSHOP for all levels, in styles related to Cuban salsa, such as Cha Cha Cha, body movement, Son, Rumba, Orishas, Bachata, musicality, techniques such as dancing on fast tracks, dancing in small spaces etc. EVERY WEEK A NEW THEME: diversity, to make your dancing really rich and three dimensional, and lots of fun discovering new styles and new techniques!
20:30-21:30: a 50' CLASS OF CUBAN SALSA at 3 levels, beginners / improvers / intermediates. Each level has a programme of moves attached to it. LEARN FASTER AND IMPROVE YOUR CONFIDENCE WITH A STRUCTURED SYLLABUS: think learning to read, first you learn the letters, then the words, then the sentences. At each stage you know exactly what your level is, you get clear explanations and you have enough material to enjoy dancing with confidence at your own level. Bye bye confusion!
SPECIAL BEGINNERS SALSA COURSE: beginners will be led through our specially designed beginners syllabus which aims at giving new dancers all the necessary basics to have fun with salsa right from the start. This course will boost your confidence before joining the improvers class. No partner needed, as you will be introduced to other dancers of the same level.
QUALIFIED TEACHERS AND RESPONSIBLE TEACHING: BEKI SAUNDERS (www.dancevisions.co.uk) is your guest teacher every week. She is qualified from both the IDTA and the ISTD. DJ SACHA has followed a UKA teacher training. They have both been noticeable members of the UK's Cuban salsa scene for many years, and have been actively training with widely recognized teachers such as Kerry Ribchester, Ariel Rios and others. Positive energy to lift your mood, wide smiles and fun jokes, yet a solid knowledge of Cuban salsa and no compromise whatsoever on responsible teaching.

NEW: 6 weeks fun beginners Cuban salsa course, starting January 16th, 2012.

These lessons are ideal for those wanting to make their first steps in salsa before going along to the Cambridge Cuban Salsa classes, or for those who would simply like to come along and enjoy learning the new moves. They are also useful for existing salsa dancers who would like to strengthen their knowledge of the 30+ core moves which are the basic building blocks of Cuban salsa. They are the perfect place to enjoy salsa in a friendly environment, to get fit and to meet new people.

The course will cover a set of basic routines which are the core of Cuban salsa, and will include enough technical detail to make you comfortable, confident and looking good on the dancefloor, while enjoying the fantastic fun and positive energy of Cuban salsa!

This class is sponsored by the Cambridge City Council under the "Get Back into Dance" programme. Many thanks to Helen Robbins for her invaluable help in setting up this course.

When: 19:00-20:00, every Monday from January 16th to February 20th included.

This fabulous, London based, Colombian band have been together for many years. They are fronted by the lovely and immensely talented singer Adriana Santana. Her partnership with Lisandro Zapata (songwriter/vocalist/bass guitar) and Fernando “Kinacho” Suárez (songwriter/backing vocals/piano) has been the backbone to many exhilarating performances. They are joined by other first class musicians to bring you a five piece band that will delight all salsa lovers and non salsa people alike.

Palenke’s music is a mix of Rock and Roll, modern R&B and hip hop, with a hint of Jazz and funk. All the tracks are very danceable and uplifting songs, where Salsa is the main ingredient. Whether you dance salsa or not come and enjoy a great night out with a truly great band.
