Kerry Ribchester's visit to Cambridge: WOW!

kerry_dance.jpg We have been very lucky on Saturday November 20th 2010 to have Kerry's visit in Cambridge to teach a workshop about Cuban styling and Orishás as part of a "100% Cuban workshop" organized by Cambridge Cuban Salsa.

Right away, everyone can feel that 20 years of teaching experience make a huge impact. Kerry is an analyzer, a movement scientist: she has been distillating Cuban specimens in holiday retorts with a pinch of her Hellerwork qualifications and healthy dose of pedagogical skills, to achieve a unique style of teaching which has changed many people's dancing in profound ways. If you were a Mister Hide Behind The Venue's Curtains, she will make you a Dr.Crazy On The Dancefloor. Jokes apart, many of us got that "Aaaaaaaah, wow!" slap-on-the-forehead kind of feeling during her classes.

Kerry can be tracked across the UK in many salsa congresses, kerry2_holiday.jpg but she also provides some extremely valuable one-to-one sessions of bodywork+dance coaching, some special workshops in London and some dance holidays which have made a spotless name for themselves under the brand name "Key2Cuba".

People might think that this blog post is just another advertisement plug, but the reason why we wholeheartedly support Kerry's activities at Cambridge Cuban Salsa is that we have experienced her teaching and seen its tremendously positive effects on many people's Cuban salsa dancing. kerry_ribchester_01.jpg We genuinely think that she is one of the key people in raising the global quality of Cuban salsa dancing in the UK, and we like that. Feedback about her trips has always been very positive, and we believe that such dance trips, which include a complete dance teaching programme with the Raices Profundas dance company and involve some professional Cuban teachers in Cuba, some of them living legends such as Juan de Dios, are also an essential channel for introducing better knowledge about the quality of Cuban dancing and music in the UK.

The next dates of Key2Cuba's dance holiday trips for 2010/2011 will be:

  • 14 nights New Year trip from 29 December 2010 to 12 January 2011
  • 14 nights Valentine's trip from 2 to 16 February 2011.

Book early as space is strictly limited.

Kerry has also directed a few video clips which are a treat to watch: here is Bamboleo's "La Que Manda" below. Watch out for rumours of a new Los Van Van video coming out soon... Enjoy!

DJ Sacha

DJSacha_Promo_Pic_smaller.jpg DJ Sacha combines a rare mix of skills which guarantees the best possible entertainment for your party.

Musical taste - DJ Sacha's live mixes gather energetic tracks that truly transmit salsa's positive energy to the audience, and form a balanced mix of ageless favourites and bleeding edge hits which sustain the audience's dancing energy until the end of the night. Such a sure taste for music comes from a musical education which started in France at an early age with piano, clarinet, saxophone and singing, all completed, when joining university in Paris, with an urge to roam the capital's live concerts and second hand CD shops. Sacha's passion to discover all forms of musical cultures and their connection to people's lives was further deepened when travelling around the world in 2002 and 2003. A sudden encounter with a Manolito tune in 2004 marked the start of his passion for Cuban salsa: the sheer energy, musical completeness and fascinating traditions of Timba took the pole position of his eclectic musical taste.

Dance teaching and entertainment - Sacha's ability to lead energetic Ruedas (circle dances) and fun line ups guarantees that everyone gets a chance to dance and to love the party. After moving to the UK in 2007, Sacha developed his dance teaching skills through collaborations with various internationally known Cuban salsa teachers, amongst which multi-award superstar Kerry Ribchester. Sacha has since acquired a long teaching experience in the framework of local group classes, private one-to-one classes, primary schools (CRB checked), corporate parties and hen/stag nights, and has a track record of helping people of all abilities to become confident on the dancefloor. His recent selection by the Cambridge City Council to participate into the "Get back into dance 2012" programme proves his reliability.

Salsa promotions - Sacha's efforts in organizing and promoting Cuban salsa events have revived, developed and grown the Cuban salsa scene in the region of Cambridge, and he is now helping with a number of other Cuban salsa projects in East Anglia and the UK. More information is available through his Cuban salsa information website: www.CambridgeCubanSalsa.co.uk.

DJ Sacha is available on demand for salsa services including DJing, dance classes including Cuban salsa, Bachata and Merengue styles, hen parties and wedding animations, musical workshops, salsa demos and artist bookings. Please use this contact form to get more information.
